Brett Anderson

release date: 26 Mar 2007 // label: Drowned in Sound

Brooding is a word one cannot talk about Brett Anderson without using.
Be it the early foundations of the Brit Pop movement where there was
always something slightly edgier about Suede than many of their
counterparts, or the Tears, which marked Anderson and Butlerís brief
return to the music scene, but it always felt something like a stepping
stone ' a tentative baby step away from Suede to what the pair really
wanted to be doing ' and maybe this is it for Anderson.e self titled 11
track CD is pitched as a look inside the man behind the voice, but will
fans like what they see?
A much softer, introverted collection of songs, one
gets the feeling this is Anderson finally taking a breather and writing
some songs for himself rather than delivering what is expected.

Highlights
include almost electro-sounding Dust and Rain, about two people so
hopelessly in love/lust with each other but are ultimately destructive
when put together. 'To the winterí is a heart wrenching track about a
love that fades with the season, while Scorpio Rising is a throwback to
more familiar Suede-esque territory. All is not lost, just far calmer,
more self-confident Anderson.
