Paquito D’Rivera and Jane Monheit Headline Alzheimer’s Benefit.

Nine-time Grammy-winner Paquito D'Rivera will perform in New York City
on April 12 to benefit the local Alzheimer’s Association chapter.
Joining the acclaimed saxophonist-clarinetist are vocalists Jane
Monheit and Louise Rogers, as well as the New York Voices. The
one-night-only engagement, “For Those We Love,” will start 7:30 p.m. at
the Kate Playhouse at Hunter College.
Rogers and Peter Eldridge (New York Voices) organized the event,
which they plan to make an annual show. Both had family members with
Alzheimer’s—Rogers’ mother lived for 17 years after being diagnosed
with the disease in 1976; Eldridge’s mother was recently diagnosed in
2005.
“We are so proud to partner with the New York City Chapter of the
Alzheimer’s Association to make this a socially significant and
musically momentous event,” Rogers and Eldridge said in a press
statement. “The concert will be an emotional and uplifting evening of
jazz to benefit those we love.”
The concert will largely consist of Brazilian vocal jazz. D’Rivera
and the New York Voices first collaborated in 2003 on their Latin
Grammy-winning album Brazilian Dreams.
Born in Cuba, D’Rivera was a child prodigy in his home country,
learning classical saxophone at age 5. Since his early start, D’Rivera
has played in the most prestigious venues around the world with the
London Royal Symphony, Bronx Arts Ensemble, Puerto Rico Symphony
Orchestra and many other esteemed groups.
